Carilion's
mission of Improving the health of the communities it serves
is well-founded in our Medical Education Department. Good health
is key to a region's vitality and quality of life. Through advanced
training and education of our resident physicians, we are carrying
that mission to every hometown and household.
Carilion's two major teaching facilities, Carilion
Roanoke Community Hospital and Carilion
Roanoke Memorial Hospital,
serve as the medical center for western Virginia. Nationally
and regionally recognized physicians serve on our full-time
medical education faculty. And at over 75 strong, the faculty
is ensuring that the region has access to a pool of excellent
doctors. With 150 residents in family medicine, internal medicine,
obstetrics/gynecology, surgery, psychiatry, orthopedics and
transitional programs, Carilion is finding better ways to care
for its communities.
Overall, Carilion provides services for the metropolitan Roanoke
population of 250,000 and has a referral area of one million
people. Among its services, Carilion provides a regional cancer
center; cardiac catheterization and cardiac surgery programs;
Level I Trauma Center; neuro-trauma, medical, cardiac and cardiac
surgery intensive care units; neonatal intensive care; perinatology;
pediatric intensive care; and numerous ambulatory departments.
