Providing
excellent care means remaining on the cutting edge of technology.
Carilion is dedicated to ensuring access to the latest care through
several recent medical advances, including:
- Voice recognition technology and Picture Archiving System (PACS)
in our Imaging Department.
- Unicompartmental knee replacement surgery, often known as partial
knee replacement, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH).
- "Pill camera" at CRMH and Carilion Roanoke Community
Hospital (CRCH) for diagnosing certain small intestine disorders.
- Automated drug dispensing equipment (Pyxis), Medication Administration
Check (MAC) and bar code technology at our Roanoke hospitals to
check and verify inpatient medication.
- Operating Room Information System (ORIS) in phases at CRMH,
CRCH and Carilion Brambleton Center to streamline patient scheduling
and standardize supplies and equipment.
- (PET) scanner at CRMH to detect cancer, Alzheimer’s disease,
Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, stroke and heart disease.
Additionally, the System received state approval for an ambulatory
surgical center and an ambulatory cardiac catheterization center.
The ambulatory surgical center was developed with local physician
partners and will include three operating rooms utilized for orthopedic,
ear, nose and throat procedures. The outpatient catheterization
center was planned in conjunction with local cardiologists. |
