Magnet Redesignation

CMC’s Magnet designation will be up for renewal in November 2007. To continue our Magnet status CMC will need to complete the re-designation process, which is almost identical to the initial designation progression. Please see below for the steps involved in earning redesignation.

  • We must submit an application of intent one year before our Magnet status expires.
  • Seven months before the end of our designation period, we'll submit documentation of evidence of how we have advanced nursing excellence focusing on the framework of the 14 forces.
  • ANCC then reviews the information we submitted. In the re-designation process this documentation should show our advancement from our initial application documentation.
  • After our written documentation is approved, ANCC will schedule a two-day site visit. During the visit, two appraisers will seek to clarify, verify and amplify information found in the written documentation. When the site visit is complete, the appraisers will prepare a written report of their findings based on their review of the written documentation and observations during the site visit.

The commission on Magnet continually seeks to improve the Magnet program and process. And, Magnet requirements have developed and evolved over time. Currently the re-designation process is as described above. In March 2006 the commission on Magnet held a summit meeting to discuss goals of re-designation. Several CNOs that have re-designated recently, experienced Magnet appraisers, staff and ANCC leadership participated in this discussion. Many recommendations came from this summit. A revised process for re-designation will be piloted for 2007 and CMC has agreed to participate in the pilot.
